Facebook is getting smarter? Maybe I shouldn’t be making a big deal about this, but it’s pretty cool that I made a comment about the LA Lakers back in January and Facebook knew it should be displayed when I visited the LA Lakers Facebook Page. I mean, obviously I wrote “lakers” in my comment, so it’s not that hard to figure it out, but I think there is a lot going on behind the scenes. Twitter’s only advancement has been to include a search feature, so you don’t have to use third-party services to search by hashtags. Anyway, this was just a quick post. Thought maybe if I posted this that someone would let me know that this feature has been around forever or when it came to be. That’s what I’m most curious about: how long has this been around? Let me know. Gracias.

New iPad is HOT (Literally)

I decided I couldn’t wait to get an iPad anymore and ordered mine 2 days ago. The next day I was having the same conversation with a few people: Apple’s manufacturing and products haven’t had any screw ups since ‘antennagate’. I jinxed it. The following day I wake up to stories about the iPad running really hot. This is pretty depressing. And Apple responded just hours later with “nah… you’re buggin man, it’s a little warmer but you’re not going to burn yourself!” Ignore the quotes though, I paraphrased. I’m still excited to get mine.

Additionally, drop tests were done and apparently the new iPad shatters worse than iPad 2.  I guess I have to visit my local Apple store in the first 30 days to get that Apple+ Care. I planned on doing so anyway, but now I have more of a reason to do so. I keep wondering if I should have ordered the Verizon LTE one, for resale-value’s-sake. Oh well.

Still compiling a list of things I want to do when I get it: try iTunes U, gaming, reading. Those things just aren’t the same on the iPhone. I can’t wait, should have it before the end of the month :)

On Repeat: Wiz Khalifa - The Cruise

This song is stuck in my head right now. Such a mellow flow. Perfect song to play in this nice weather we’ve been having with ‘the windows down, the radio’s up’. Ooo

Diablo III Launching May 15

Diablo 3 Release DateI’ve been dying to play this game. Haven’t gotten lucky enough to get a beta invite. We’re cool now. I have 2 left of being a cheerful, social person. And then this game comes out and you’re going to have to start visiting me to see me. I really hope this game doesn’t disappoint. There’s been so much hype so far, people in the beta can’t really comment a whole bunch on how the whole game is going to play out because they’ve only got to enjoy the first hour or so of the game. With the amount of time Blizzard has put into this and all of the changes they have made, I’m sure it will at least be worth the money I dropped for the pre-order. And now Blizzard makes me feel dumb for pre-ordering it since I won’t be able to download it as soon as it’s available. I’ll have to wait for the physical copy to reach my door before I can start slashing through demons to once again rid the world of evil. Maybe Amazon (that’s where I purchased my pre-order) will deliver it early, or maybe they will provide me with my key ahead of time so I can get online when everyone else will be overwhelming the Battle.net servers as well. Anyway, I’m excited. Diablo 3!!!

Verizon to Sell LTE Phones Only for Rest of the Year

Verizon Wireless logo
Verizon Wireless will be selling 4G LTE phones only from here on. According to the Wall Street Journal, Verizon is making a make push to increase their 4G subscriber base from the current 5% to something much greater than that. More users on the higher bandwidth 4G network would relieve congestion on the slower 3G network, and likely reduce operating costs in the long run.

Why are customers choosing the slower 3G devices anyway? The Google Galaxy Nexus is an awesome 4G device that provides users with the only Android 4.0 experience on the VZW network. And all of Verizon’s flagship devices since the HTC Thunderbolt have been 4G devices. Of course there’s that one exceptions: Apple iPhone 4S.

People choosing iPhones more often than faster 4G phones on Verizon Wireless shows that people are more interested in iOS than Android. Android has many advantages including arguably the best free navigation system, varying hardware specs that beat iPhone by numbers and Flash compatibility; but I think what keeps Apple’s iPhone ahead of the pack is the App Store and simplicity in Apple’s design of everything about the iPhone: hardware, UI and iTunes. And with this recent story, we can add 4G LTE to the list of things the iPhone has to offer.

You follow that logic, right? If all phones and devices released by Verizon Wireless for the rest of the year are going to be 4G LTE devices and the world is expecting the next generation iPhone later this year and we expect it will be available on Verizon Wireless, then what we can expect is the 4G equipped iPhone we’ve been waiting for. Rejoice!

As far as Verizon goes, expanding form 200 to 400 markets LTE markets by the end of the year? That’s an amazing feat. Verizon’s 4G LTE service was first launched about 15 months ago and in the next 9 months, they plan to double its size. Verizon is going to need to bolster its workforce to support this expansion and the customers they hope to attract, so I hope people are looking for those jobs now, they’re available: http://www22.verizon.com/jobs/verizon-wireless/search-jobs

HTML-5 Based Tethering on iPhone

tether logoDamnnn that’s pretty crazy. Some people are very gifted hackers, programmers, whatever you wanna call them. I think this pretty great. I don’t think wireless carriers are going to agree and might push Apple to release an update that would stop this from working but I hope that doesn’t happen. I wanted to get the Tether.com app when it was available for iPhone but it didn’t seem worth it because I imagined it would be pulled and then we would never see an update for it and I wasn’t wrong. I still don’t understand how the iPhone is accessing the cellular network with WiFi enabled though. I guess that’s where HTML-5 comes in. If someone knows how this is working, let me know, plead. I’m very curious.
